Blackmore Trail to Blackmore Lake is a 10.9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Bozeman, MT that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible from March until October.
The hike to the lake is fairly easy and would make a great day hike for just about anyone and is also a beautiful resting spot. Getting to the peak is much more challenging. I was not accustomed to the altitude and was breathing heavy most of the way! The two sets of main switch backs were very difficult but getting to the peak is very rewarding and well worth it! Took me just over 3 hours to get to the peak and about 2.5 to get back to the trail head.
If you're looking for a challenging day hike near Bozeman, Blackmore Peak is a great option. The trail starts out fairly easy through thick conifer forest and winds down to Blackmore Lake where you will get a nice view of the peak you’re about to ascend. the lake is easy to get to and a great pitstop for dogs before continuing to the peak! five star rating is for the peak- it is a must! so beautiful and green- we saw mountain goats and the 360 degree views are amazing. about 14-15 miles round trip, but moderate difficulty as far as peaks go.
Absolutely stunning from the top. Met an older gentlemen in his 70's that has made it to the summit over 80 times
Fairly simple hike to the lake, starting off we got lost and turned around on the trails but eventually found the right trail to get up to the lake.
Easy to the lake, the summit would add much more of a challenge. I hiked this in July and the bugs were terrible! Bring bug spray. The signage is a bit confusing and the trail is not well-defined from the start. There is tall grass/ plants in the middle of the trail for about .5 miles.
Easy hike to lake. Recommend trying the Summit
Easy hike through forest then drops down to the lake. The day can be made even better by keep on going up the trail to the summit of Mount Blackmore, all though a lot tougher (will add about 3000 feet elevation gain), but really is worth it and would be rated 5 stars.
Nice hike (mostly uphill) to a pretty lake, lots of wildflowers. Very rocky trail with frequent spots for you to have a break from the sun when hot. Would not rate this one as easy-moderate, moderate at the least. BRING BUG REPELLENT ! The biting flies will feast on you. The hike to the lake is worth it and if you aren't too tired the trail continues on to the mountain.
I have played up Hylite for the past 20 years. This was my first time up to Blackmore Lake. The trail is well mantained with areas of rock and roots. There is a steady climb for most of the trail before you drop into the lake. The trail continues on to Mt. Blackmore.
