The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. This route travels the Missouri river valley. Take hwy 40 west out of Columbia, Mo (runs parallel to I-70 on the north) to the towns of Rocheport and on to Boonville, Mo., then turn south at Boonville, then west on I-70 to hwy 41 leading to Arrow Rock, MO. The route takes you through the scenic Missouri River Valley with a mixture of woody hills and then back to the river bottoms. The towns of Rocheport and Boonville are quaint rural Mo. towns that add a nice flavor to the trip. The route also takes you pass several trailheads for the Katy trail, the premier rails to trails track in Missouri. The Western terminal of the trail is Arrow Rock, MO. A destination in its own right.
The trail is a mixture of the Missouri rive valley and surrounding hill country with pleasant Rural scenery. The western terminal at Arrow Rock offers camping and historic tours with a state visitor center. You can also access the Katy trail along the way. pleasant excursion.
