Stunning views of the Missouri River Bluffs, Best hike in Metro Area This is the most scenic hike in the Metro St. Louis Area. Three sections of the trail pass by limestone cliffs and bluff escarpments where hikers enjoy a beautiful view of the Missouri River. These sections require you to take a short spur off of the main trail. The bluffs are usually about 25 yards from the main trail. These sections come up in the first 2 miles of the hike. Moderately strenuous for Missouri hiking. One possible, yet easy, creek crossing in wet weather. Be sure, at the creek crossing, to take the fork that heads NORTH or else you will be doing the full 8.2 mile loop (Lewis Trail).
This is my favorite hiking trail by far yet! Some of the best and most scenic views that you can ask for. Lots of nature to look at ( both plants and animals) I do take my Shiba Inu with me every time, (not in summer) and he loves it. There are always other dogs out there too. The trial does have some treacherous terrain and hills, but worth it every time. Every time I leave, I can't wait to come back.
Could not have asked for a better day. Hike was great. We did the Clark trail. Will probably do the Lewis trail in the spring!

started out to do the 5 mile, wound up doing the longer trail due to very poor trail markings! Would do again though.
Love it. Very challenging with majestic views.
awesome. the whole 9 mi loop is strenuous but amazingly satisfying.

Love this trail. I find it challenging.
9-5-16. It was a challenging walk but worth it!
Great trail a bit of a challenge. Scenery is beautiful.
Lewis trail 8-21-16 good trail. Dirt surface. Watch your step lots of exposed roots and rocks i would rate this as moderate
Did the 8 mile loop Friday August 12th in afternoon on a clear day. Views from Bluffs were great, rolling river below green scape all around. We missed the cut off for 5 mile. Stop take close look unless you are ready for a strenuous full 8 with the final 3 miles with significant incline. Very invigorating hike. August means Poison Ivey especially on the backside of the full hike. Be prepared with long pants and socks to avoid the Calamine lotion!
I will be back for fall walk in the woods. Pick a nice afternoon on weekday and have the place I disturbed.
I love this trail!!!
