Grand River Trail is a 58 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Gallatin, Missouri that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Grand River; Gallatin to Sumner is a class one float stream meandering through a rural landscape and occasional small farming communities. The Grand River is the largest northern Missouri tributary of the Missouri River. It is best floated March through June. Can be floated later in the year. There are numerous sand bars for camping.
Three stars for general review. Four stars for solitude and just a pleasant remote float. You must plan ahead as their are no commercial outfitters or riverside resupply. I did this over four days and took all my supplies with me. The take out at Sumner bridge was a little steep but manageable. If you obtain a river map you can find numerous take out points.
The Grand is a typical north Missouri stream in that it is typically somewhat muddy water but ok for swimming etc.
