Brushy Creek Trail is a 12 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Fremont, Missouri that features a river and is only recommended for very experienced adventurers. The trail is primarily used for hiking and camping and is accessible year-round.
This trail is rugged to say the least. It was very untraveled and remote. Just finding the trailhead was a difficult task. There's plenty of water available throughout the route, lots of places to set up primitive camp by the creeks, and there's a 1 1/2 mile trail that leads to the Current River. Rugged and overgrown! At times very hard to find trail markers. There's an abundance of creek crossings and plenty of water along the way. There are several uphill treks and ridge treks. The terrain is constantly changing. If you want to backpack where you are sure to be the only ones on the trail and are comfortable with primitive camping, this is the place. This is not an easy trail. Recommended for more experienced hikers. If you are more inexperienced (as I am), be prepared to take your time and take several breaks. We went while there was still snow/ice on the ground and it took us approximately 8 hours to hike 6-7 miles each day.
