Take a few hours of your day to explore Bluffside Park (the trails behind Holzinger Lodge). There are maps available every so often and the trails simply loop around the bluffs. The cool part about these trails are that they change with elevation. Some begin (or end) at the Woodlawn Cemetary and some go as far West as the "Fire Pit" (Just South of K-Mart located on HWY 61, behind a Ford Car Lot). If you go up the trails at the Fire Ring (a short stone wall circled around a fire pit), you may find "Skinny Man's Cave". I always take new people to this spot because it is quite well hidden. BRING A FLASHLIGHT and a camera. It gets narrow, but once through it opens into a "room" where a few people can sit inside. There are also some amazing rock climbing sites near the cave on the east side (can see the bare rock from 61). Back to the trails...you can easily spend 3+ hours hiking back there. I've seen Lady Slippers (MN state flower), and tons of different mushrooms and wildlife. It is not hard to get lost if you keep in mind what direction you are walking and how to get back. Have fun and maybe check out Woodlawn Cemetary too. There are some cool and unique sites.

If you haven't hiked these trails before, bring a map. Our hour planned hike turned into a two and a half hour trek. It was fun and very beautiful. Just wish we would have known that the trails weren't marked well.
