Frankfort to Ludington is a 60 mile trail located near Manistee, Michigan. The trail is primarily used for scenic driving and is accessible year-round.
This area is a wonderful backpacking site. It is a National Wilderness Area with hardly any trails, however the forest is sparse and with Lake Michigan nearby it is easy to keep your bearings. With several dunes, this is a vigorous hike. There are no campsites per se, but there are several wonderful spots in the forests to set up camp. To shorten the hike, you can park at the Michigan Recreation Area. Doing this will make it a 16 mile there and back to the Big Sable lighthouse.
