Small Swamp Trail is located near North Truro, Massachusetts. The trail is primarily used for hiking.
Similar to Pilgrim Spring Trail, this one takes the casual hiker down into an old glacial "kettle" which was formed when an old lake had slowly filled in; today it is a wetland teeming with birds [ boardwalk]. Back in the mid-1800s, a man named Thomas Small had his farmstead here.
A wee bit more strenuous than its shorter cousin, the Pilgrim Spring Trail, this one takes you deeper into the pitch pine, bayberry, and blackjack oak forests of native Cape Cod. Bug spray recommended in summer months from June through early October, I prefer eucalyptus spray [ available at Walmart or Kmart, etc.] instead of that nasty Deet junk. It works just as well.
