Ponkapoog Pond Trail is a 3.8 mile loop trail located near Canton, Massachusetts and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is accessible year-round.
Fairly easy walk / hike around the outskirts of the pond. Took around 90mins to do the full loop. Dog friendly also and we even seen some deers on the golf course.
Haven't done the full loop but will definitely go again.
You can't actually hike around the reservoir. There's a track open to the public but no hiking.
Amazing place to hike.
Mostly flat easy 4mile loop, well marked and well groomed trails. Perfect for your canine companion, I am surprised I did not see more dogs there actually. It took me less than 2 hours to complete even with stopping multiple times at different watering areas for my dog to play. Most of the loop I did had shade cover from the trees.
Entering through the golf course was a bit odd but did provide for ample parking. There is also parking/entrance off exit 3 of 93 which will put you on the north side of the loop and is probably easier for people coming from the north.
with 125miles of trails, you can pretty much choose if you want to hike a trail thats easy like a green dot trail to a long hard hike with the blue skyline trail. before you hike make sure you get a map from either the trailside museum or the reservation headquarters. the trails are all well marked & numbered, so the map is a plus. best place inside of rte 128. ive seen 10 deer in 1 week while hiking up there. 1 to 10 i give it a 10
Did this trail at night on a Full Moon hike. Its was really nice though incredibly windy that night!! We even saw a black and yellow spotted newt.
Hiking is easy and a nice after-work walk. You can camp in the AMC cabins on Ponkapoag year-round! Boston's best kept secret! Get the info off the AMC website. No electric/ No running water, but totally worth it! Take a canoe/ kayak out and do some fishing. It's hard to get a cabin during the summer, but off-season (Labor Day - 3rd week in June), you can grab-up a cabin for as low as $50 for the weekend!
4.4 Miles of moderate hiking. The terrain is very challenging; the few stops along the way around the pond offer exhilarating views! Definitely a good hike. Watch out for the golf course!
This is an easy trail for hiking, and a great running trail. Mostly through the woods with some stretches that border the Pond.
