Popular multi-use trail near Germantown, MD Schaeffer Farm is a popular hiker/biker/equestrian trail complex near the South Germantown Recreational Area and Soccerplex. The yellow trail is the longest of five color-coded trails. Using multiple trails, many variants are available. The trail can also be combined with the Hoyle's Mill Trail for a long trek. Trails are well-marked. A map is displayed at every trail junction with an arrow pointing to the parking lot. Schaeffer Farm is a joint project of the Maryland DNR and the Mid Atlantic Off Road Enthusiasts (MORE). The trail is populated primarily by bicycles. In the interest of courtesy and safety, hikers should be prepared to step off the trail at the approach of bikers. They can get going pretty fast down the hills. Get there early - the parking lot, although relatively large, can fill up quickly.
Been riding this trails for 10 years and they never get old! Plenty of parking for cars and horse trailers and easy to read maps
First time going there & it was such a nice trail and has a great diversity of things to do. Brought my two dogs along and they also enjoyed the long walk . Will definitely be coming back
Fun but hard mountain bike series of trails. Very well marked with inter winding trails thru out. The orange offshoot to the yellow trails has a series of switch backs which were really tough, but fun. Used but never too crowded. Nice you can ride both directions.
First part of the yellow trail is a nice walk in the woods. I has fortunate to see a coyote!
Decent hike...I felt like it was 50% good and 50% ehhh. I'm not a big open field/crop hiker, so I guess that's why I didn't like the whole thing. Tons of wildlife and the wooded areas were kept up very well. The trail itself was labeled very well and everything was clean, which is a huge plus.
I would come back, but perhaps try another trail.
