Wide muddy path. The summit register and area was nice and well maintained. Follow red "HP" markers. If you're a state highpointer, West Virginia hp is also just a couple hours away.
It was a nice experience
Nice incline, beautiful views! Also be sure to stop at the smallest church in the 48, just down the street.
Follow the painted "HP's" on rocks and trees from route 219 just south of Silver Lake, WV. (trail head is in West Virginia) The quick and steep accent to Maryland's highpoint (aka Hoye Crest) offers decent views. Recent timbering near the top detracts some from the experience, but there is a nice shady spot at the top to enjoy.
Definitely a nice tranquil hike with no crowds, even on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. However, short and extremely steep. The trail itself is in poor shape and for being almost 3,500ft high the view was not exactly spectacular. Worth doing, but probably only once.
