Favorite summit in Acadia. Yes, better than Cadillac in my opinion. Trail is beautiful. Pretty quiet on a Thursday afternoon in August. Bring sunscreen or a hat so you can enjoy the summit. Bummed we missed the memo on Sargent pond. Next time!
A bit wet and slick, quite rocky, but very nice trail. The hike up along the brook, the waterfalls and the stone bridge were beautiful. We also took a short detour to the Sargent Mt Pond, and then headed to the Penobscot Mt summit. The views from Penobscot Mt are some of the best in Acadia. You can see from Bracy Cove, Long Pond, Jordan Pond, Eagle Lake and beyond in every direction. Great views of The Bubbles from above, great views of Pemetic and Sargent Mountains as well. We were lucky as we climbed on a cloudy day, and as we reached the summit, the clouds blew out, and this amazing view awaited us. It was the perfect end to a long day of hiking. We had climbed Pemetic earlier in the day and found the summit to be entirely fogged in, so we sincerely appreciated the view from Penobscot to end our day. Note...if you take the short .4 mile trail that cuts down to the Jordan Cliffs Trail, it also awards you with some stunning views, but there a couple really difficult spots descending through cracks in the cliffs. It was a good test for my fear of heights!
Nice rocky ascent up a brook bed of boulders about sums it up. Start out hiking the nature trail left of the Jordan Pond House and work your way to the Deer Brook trail marker. You will see a waterfall along the way near the carriage road bridge and then will have the choice of the Penobscot Mtn trail to the left or Sargent Mtn. trail to the right. We took the Penobscot summit trail then crossed over to Sargent. Be sure to stop at Sargent Pond along the way and take a dip. One of the only ponds in Acadia swimming is allowed. Descended back to Jordan Pond on the East Cliffs trail which was incredible. Very enjoyable loop!!
Very rocky but also very nice. Did this as part of loop between Penobscot and Sargent Mountains
