Clifty Wilderness is a 4.8 mile out and back trail located near Frenchburg, Kentucky and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round.
Osborne Bend Trail/Lost Branch Trail - This trail is in the Northern section of Clifty Wilderness. The hike described below goes from Osborn Bend trailhead on the east side to the intersection with Lost Branch Trail and all along Lost Branch. This trail overall is rather boring in comparison to most trails in the RRG area. Starts with a moderate uphill and follows the ridge line after about a mile or two all the way to lost branch, following Lost Branch to the Sheltowee trace intersection. There are many places to camp but not too many water sources and very few geological features to speak of and is overall a rather easy but non-descript hike. If you are going to hike Clifty for the first time, do yourself a favor and stay on the south end on Swift Camp Creek trail.
Begin at the Wildcat trailhead and hike up along awesome rock formations until you reach the hardwood forests on the upper ridge. Good luck avoiding the horse bogs. The intersection of Wildcat and Swift Camp Creek trails is poorly marked so pay attention. Swift Camp Creek trail descends once again into the lowland creek enviroment. This loop is a great example of the 2 types of forests you can find in KY. SCC trail ends on highway 715 so you will have to roadwalk back to the car.
