The Rocktown Hiking Trail winds through rolling hills, steep slopes, and along a valley wall, and along a portion of the shores of Wilson Lake as it passes by towering rock formations that the trail derived its name. The Rocktown Hiking Trail, located in the western part of Lucas Park, is a 3-mile loop trail that begins and ends at the parking lot access area on the east side of Rocktown. The 305-acre area has been registered as a Kansas Natural and Scientific Area by the Kansas Biological Survey in agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The area is characterized by rolling hills with shallow sandy soils, steep slopes along the valley wall, and rock outcroppings. Massive red sandstone rock formations rise 15 to 30 feet above the ground and give the visual impression of a city skyline, hence the name Rocktown. Arguably one of the most scenic locations in the state of Kansas. USA Today selected Rocktown Trail in 2011 to represent the state of Kansas as one of the "51 Great Hikes in the USA."

There's several mountain bike trails on the south side of the lake. Switchgrass, Hells Creek and Golden Belt. The trails have lots of switchbacks through the tall grass and next to the water. Not too technical, and few steep climbs. Beautiful oasis in the middle of Kansas, it's a perfect place to stop, stretch your legs and rest after driving along i70. You could spend a weekend here exploring the trails.

Mesmerizing...!! It can be leisurely completed in less than 3hrs including stopover at Sandstone pillars...

It was way too windy and the ground was charred from a fire, so my legs were black by the end of the walk. The limestone rock formations by the lake were beautiful.

Rock City is rated as one of the top hikes in the state. I suppose its relative to what is available in the state. Most will not find it remarkable. However, it is a nice hike through a pristine prairie, nice lake views, and yes a couple nice rock formations. It was a pleasant hike.
