I'm a sucker for waterfalls, absolutely gorgeous, never would think such beauty is in IL. I go back every year, you just can't get enough of all the falls! Pet friendly too!
Lots of elevation changes on this trail. Lots of stairs in spots. Excellent views from various points along trail. Can see lots of wildlife as well.
This is steep at times getting down to the fall, slick from moss, nice swimming if there is water
Rare trail for Illinois. Nice overlooks and canyons. Recommend as a destination. Also Buffalo Rock and Matthiessen state parks are must to round out the trip.
Excellent trail, challenging but rewarding. A lot of elevation changes and beautiful rock formations. At first it seemed very crowded, but the crowds subsided as we entered the heart of the trial.
one of the most beautiful places in Illinois. the canyons and waterfalls are so amazing you will forget you are in Illinois. one of my favorite places to hike.
great place beautiful
I went early February and it was COLD. But that meant getting to see Wildcat Canyon's partially iced waterfall, which was pretty awesome. The hiking trails were moderate, if not easy. Some elevation changes but I'm out of shape and it wasn't difficult. The hardest terrain would probably be the man made stairs really. There's a handful of viewing spots along the river with a little story/history written down. Neat place to learn about a park and take kids out for a day's adventure. I'm looking forward to going again soon, especially now that I have this app.
This whole trail system will impress all year round. The trails will inspire the novice hiker and challenge the adventurous. There are many closed trails located to the East of the system, but I suggest you stay off them if you do not have the experience or the equipment to get out of a sticky situation (I say this from experience.)
best seen now when the falls are frozen
Always a favorite. Lookingn forward to another January hike to see the eagles. Great hike any season.
A great place to get a good workout and enjoy the view. There are several tall (for the state) cliffs and canyons to climb. You can see wild turkeys in the summer and bald eagles in the winter. If you go on the weekend it will be very crowded. The view from the end of Eagle Cliff is amazing.
Nice trail system. Better to go on the weekdays when its not so crowded. If you can catch it when the falls are running it better.
