This trail has two parts: (1) an easy 5.5 mile, well-maintained loop with crushed limestone and a couple of small hills; and (2) a little more challenging 2.9 mile rustic loop that is mostly grass and dirt.
Well maintained trail with distance markers every .5 miles on the main loop, rolling hills, seasonal prairie scenery, two bathroom facilities, and a water fountain. With the spurs and grass cut throughs, this trail can be as long or short as you want.
I do not give it a 5 because, and I know it is a prairie restoration, there are no trees along the path. So, sunny summer days bake the trail and you.
This is a great prairie trail. Be sure to visit throughout the year to observe the change of seasons in this unique habitat. Wonderful place for birding, wildflowers, photography, walking, and bicycling.
I go here all the time. It;s really good for running or biking, and the prairie and sky always look beautiful. There are several off trails I go on and then return to the trail. Recommend very highly.
Very nice trail. I was so happy with it! Did a short run. The skies were beautiful. I felt safe
It's just all open with not a whole lot to look at.
Nice area for conditioning work between hikes. I prefer the route to the east, under the road & away from most of the foot traffic. Seems some of the trails in the woods haven't been recut? Hopefully they will be maintainenced soon.
This is a go-to trail when I need some miles on crushed stone; however, it seems that maintenance has been lagging and the tire ruts were pretty treacherous on running ankles!
