This 5k (3.1 Mile) trail also known as "Clear Pond" loops along the edge of Clear Lake in Kickapoo State Park. Clear Lake is the same body of water that Kickapoo Landing (restaurant and boat rental) is located on. As such, you can look down and sometimes see kayaks, and canoes on the lake. You can also scuba dive in their very deep lakes.

Lots of hiking and fishing options. Don't miss out on the smallmouth fishing in the river.

A good kayaking trip for what you can find in Illinois.

Meh. Not much to offer for scenery; trails were a little confusing to follow because there were so many paths that went off the trail; lots of overgrowth; wasn't a difficult hike at all.

Pros: not overly crowded.

Glad I tried a new park, but probably won't be back anytime soon.

This 3.1 mile trail is called Clear Lake Trail. It follows Clear Lake around to the north out and around Emerald Pond. Some difficult places but for the most part it is a nice trail. There is a section that looks like it goes through a haunted section.....but during the day no biggie. (should not be out there at night anyway.) Toward the end there is quite a drop off to the right which gives you a nice view of the Middle Fork River. Trail is well marked - and takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to complete.

It was very fun and I had a great time. I would recommend this place to anyone that like a challenge.

This park intrigued me, having once been an open pit mine of some sort--an ecological disaster, but what a transformatiion nature, time and God can do! It is now absolutely beautiful, with woods, many ponds and several nice, easy trails to explore. Serene setting, a good place to unwind. Stayed here several days in the summer of 1992 while exhibiting at outdoor art festivals in the area, and managed to do several lanscapes.

CRICKET THICKET. WOW THIS LITTLE TRAIL IS KINDA OF HARD TO FIND. LOCATED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE PARK PAST THE I-74 BRIDGE, THIS LITTLE TRAIL IS THICK. RUNS ALONG A FISHING POND AND HAS SOME STEEP ELEVATIONS. EVIDENCE OF BEAVERS IN THE AREA, SHOWING THEIR HARD WORK. THIS TRAIL HAS SOME SLIPPERY SURFACES. AND VERY DENSE VEGETATION. THIS TRAIL CAN BE HIKED BOTH WAYS, AND THAT IS WHAT WE TYPICALLY DO. THIS IS ONE OF MY TWIN SON'S FAVORITE TRAIL.

I love Kickapoo! You can canoe on a river or lake. It has nice trails and great birding year round. There are also good mountain bike trails.
