Louie Lake Trail is an out and back trail located near McCall, Idaho that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible from March until October.
This was a fun and pretty easy hike! Our 5 year old made it the whole way up and back without any issues. The lake is beautiful and the hike has a lot of beautiful scenery along the way as well. I would highly recommend it for a quick day hike!
Luis lake is beautiful, with lots of fish jumping! No bait. 2 fish, size limits etc.
from the entry, you hike a ways and meet up with a logging road. take a left when you emerge and follow the painted rocks. Uphill pretty much all the way there, downhill back. Wear decent shoes or be prepared to take you time to avoid slipping.
This trail is pretty difficult. It is steep all the way up, but the views are well worth the hike. Make sure you follow the logging road all the way to the lake. There are not any short cuts.
great little hike / beautiful lake and surroundings - the fishing was good!
Make sure you have mapped out which route you want to take. There are several different trails to choose from & some are more popular than others. Several trails are poorly marked & some end abruptly.
The hike starts as a fairly challenging uphill hike for 1/4-1/3 mile then you hit a gravel road, make you you take a left and follow the road straight and it will lead you to the lake... We went across the road and added another 2.5 miles of steep up and down hiking but still amazing and beautiful hike.

Short hike uphill mostly. The lake is beautiful!
Little bit of sweat getting up, but the view is worth it!! Word of advice, when you come to the logging road, do not cross! Take the left and follow it up, the trail begins it's vertical ascent from that point on.
Lots of vertical ascent but the trail is well defined and the lake is definitely worth it! I recommend descending to Boulder Lake and making it a loop!
