Puu Maelieli Trail is a 2.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Kaneohe, HI that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Doesn't seem to be as crowded as its neighbor, Lanikai Pillbox trail. This trail is in the lush, rainy, muddy windward side of Oahu. There are a few views and at least one small pill box before you reach the end of the trail at a large double decker pill box with grand North and East facing views. I only saw a couple of other people on mid day, mid week.
Easy little trail with a rewarding view of Kaneohe Bay once you reach the bunkers. First section turns into a mud slide if it's been raining at all-and it's the windward side so it rains all the dang time. So be prepared to get muddy and deal with mosquitos.
Pretty cool trail with a lot of mud if you like that. Besides the first steep climb I would rate this a beginner trail.
This was a good hike. Almost hard to find since it's right off the highway and there was a cone at the initial entrance but I definitely enjoyed the hike. Some steep areas but it levels out.
great hike, best to do when its not raining. first time doing this hike and we started after a rain. slipped a few times but the view at the top was worth it. relaxing and mostly shaded trail throughout. enjoy!
The mud was fun
Good short workout, beautiful views!
Amazing view at the top. Today was a perfect day to hike. Was not hard at all, not muddy and slipper. This trail can get muddy after a rain.
One of my faves. Amazing view at the top.
A little hard at the start cause most goes uphill! Tiring but yet views are beautiful. So peaceful and relaxing. Coming down was the easiest!
Great hike. Relatively easy, steep at first. Can be very slippery if recently rained. Would not attempt if wet. My children (4 and 6) completed this hike with no complaining. Stunning views at the top!
The hike was beautiful! I didn't expect some of the large hills in the beginning but the view was worth it! Took maybe an hour and 15 minutes including rest time at the top! Depending on your activity level, it may more or less time!
