This is a beautiful trail in central Oahu. A permit from the Department of Forestry and Wildlife at Makiki is required to gain access to the 4WD road that leads you to the trailhead. Once at the trailhead, it is a wide meandering and easy hike that traverses some of the most pristine forest on Oahu. There are great views of the Koolaus, Poamoho Stream, and of the east, north, and west coasts. At the top, it is a grassy area beyond the Kline Memorial, with epic views of Kaawa, Kahana, and Punaluu. Don't miss the great view of the pyramid mountain Pu'u Ohulehule. In all a great hike. Be sure that to watch the weather as it is normally raining at Poamoho and it can get very muddy. Lookout for the yellow, orange, pink and red ohia trees!
be sure to have decent grips on your hiking shoes!
I never did this trail yet, but would love to go with someone who has been and is a safe smart hiker. Anyone interested in taking me 30 yr old woman who loves the outdoors. Not a advanced hiker but I have done quite a bit of hikes and love a challenge. My name is Jenyce Tolentino if you're serious about inviting me i'm on facebook. Also to different trails not just this one! Hope to hear from someone!!
One of the best ridge trail with incredible views on Oahu.
Poor Brandon Donaldson can't read... This is ALL Trails. Not just hiking trails. The description for this trail clearly states that the first portion is a 4WD. There are quite a few of such trails where access to the trailhead is a 4WD road. Now that doesn't mean you can't hike it. As there are many too today that lock the gates and you have no choice but to hike it (eg Moanalua, Laie, Kawailoa, etc.). Read, understand and be prepared. There are even trails here that you have to swim or kayak or ski to! Regardless, Poamoho is one of the island's best kept secrets because it takes a little more to get to it. Love the nature along the way.
why the hell do people keep posting these type of trails. this iant a HIKING trail. you must have a 4x4 for access, only 4x4 is allowed. dumb poaters sont understans thia ia for HIKING not hunting. waste of time post
This is a great classic trail on Oahu. It mixes a 3 mile 4WD with a 3.5 mile (one-way) contouring hill side cut-out trail with some of the best bird watching opportunities. At the end of the trail is the Kline Memorial with expansive views of Punaluu, kahana, Kaaawa, and Kaneohe. You can also choose to follow the KST east for another thrilling half a mile to get to the Poamoho Cabin. But be careful on this section as there are some pretty steep drop offs. Watch out for hunters and their dogs. All in all a great experience. note that you will need a Department of Forestry and Wildlife permit attainable at the makiki office.
