Mariners Ridge Trail [PRIVATE PROPERTY] is a 2.2 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Honolulu, Hawaii that offers scenic views. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding.
TRAIL IS CLOSED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. The only way to hike this trail is with an official hiking club (e.g. HTMC, Sierra Club, or other). There is now a big fence and gate that locks the entrance.
Great quick and easy hike. Beautiful views! This trail is closed, and the gates are heavily greased (would be a mess to get in). So go with the Sierra Club or HTMC, who have special access to the trail.
Was able to complete with the Sierra Club last weekend. They are one of two groups that have access from KSBE
The trail has closed. There is a big black iron fence installed at the entrance. I also saw long bird spikes installed on top of the wooden fence of the last house, possibly to deter hikers from trespassing in their property. Well, a bit sad, but luckily there are other trails not far away to hike.
This trail is now officially closed to the public as of December 2013. The only way to hike this trail is with an official hiking club (e.g. HTMC, Sierra Club, or other). There is now a big fence and gate that locks the entrance.
You can attempt to reach this trail from the Koolau Summit Trail either from the direction of Kamilo Iki Ridge Trail or from Hahaione/Kuliouou Trails.
Just FYI, Kaluanui also known as the Mariners Ridge trail is no longer open to the public
This is one of my favorite hikes. Easiest to the top of the Koolau's and family friendly. This is the first hike I took my wife on, and proposed to her at the top. Since then we've taken the kid, other friends and family members up. Always enjoyable!
nice and easy. great for the whole family even young kids or old people. lots of shade. be careful not to slip on all the pine needles and roots. i did this hike so many times and it was always enjoyable.
Nice easy hike, good for beginners, nice leg stretcher for experienced to expert, good connections to other trails, excellent views the entire island, especially Hawaii Kai, waimanalo, lanikai, Kailua, mcbh, china mans hat, and the Kbay sandbar... Best to go when the trade winds are blowing, wear sunscreen and bring a liter of water, good shoes as well, trail is dog friendly, the adventures of Brewtus continue, he loved it! Just remember to Kokua!
This another hike that is in a residential neighborhood. So be respectful to the people that live around there. It is street parking, so be courteous to others.
This hike is a easy hike. It's not to long and is covered for majority of the trail. There is a nice breeze that flows thru the valley. So very relaxing.
This trail is quite busy at times. I seen a Korean Hiking Tour group the day I went. Please be careful at the top. The view is very nice at the top.
All in all this is a short hike with a nice view. It has a little incline parts but not to bad. It's a nice hike for beginners and people that want a short hike with a great view.
Enjoy!! Lucky we live Hawaii!!
Really great hike on Oahu. I went up with my wife, 8yr old daughter, 4yr old son and carried my 2yr old in a hiking carrier on my back. Family friendly but watch the kids at the peak and a couple narrow places. Not good for strollers but the views are amazing!
Trail is closed as of right now. Someone died and the emergency crews are trying to retrieve the body. Police would not let anyone enter.
Ignore the No Trespassing and Private Property signs at the trail head. The trails were well worn and loved. There were plenty of locals, families, and tourists hiking the trail. Some roots and rocks to handle at certain points of the trail and some steep parts. I would say it's more beginner/moderate. It's not a long trail so even if you're not in the best shape you can easily make it to the top. The views along the way are amazing and you get a full view of east and north Oahu at the top. I decided to run down the trail which provided a nice quad workout.
Great views of the coastline at the top of the trail and along the way. Moderate difficulty as it gets a bit steep at the end.
This was my first hike here in Hawaii. It was not as easy as we thought. Very tricky footing. However it was worth the climb.
Trail was closed off and posted. Could not hike.
