Great short rocky steep hike along the Ka'iwa Ridge offers great views of Lanikai and Kailua. Near Waimanalo Beach - wonderful white sand and calm water, Lanikai and Kailua Beaches The Kaiwa Ridge Hike is great to go either sunrise or late afternoon short 0.6 mile each way but gains 500 ft so is steep in places with great views along the way - It takes about 30 minutes or less to hike from the trailhead to the top (second) pillbox (elev. 565-ft). Its another 10 minutes to reach the ridge's highest point (elev. 603-ft) marked by a geodetic marker (the small concrete platform with broken surveyor's pole). The "official" trailhead, unmarked, is about 40 feet uphill on a paved, private driveway along Kaelepulu Drive. The driveway is opposite of the Mid Pacific Country Club & Golf Course just before you reach an exclusive, gated community. The first part of the trail is very steep, slippery, and can be confusing, . This trail is undeveloped. The trail is rocky, windy and rewards you with a great view on top of the pillboxes. No guardrails so can be dangerous for young children. Also the trail is very poplular and can be crowded.
Pretty steep. Beautiful view the whole way.
A very pleasant, steep, short hike (30 minutes max) to an amazing view. Go check it out on a nice, dry day to avoid slippery mud, and check out Lanikai Beach after!
Fun hike. Starts really steep. At the top it started sprinkling with a rainbow and gorgeous view. As we started down it poured. The trail turned veerrry slippery and was a bit dangerous getting down. Everyone seemed to make it, but were using hands as well as feet to get down and were covered head to butt to toe in mud. It was an unexpected (admittedly fun since we made it down safely) experience.
Incredible views and a good hike to get the heart pumping.
Great, short hike. Steep start, but becomes easier. Very heavily trafficked; go half an hour before sunrise for the best views. Plenty of small children and dogs at the top, but be careful of sheer drops with your pets! Be respectful of neighbours when parking your car too.
The description says it all. I think this is a good hike to do when and if you're in the area or visiting the beach. Great view and the hike is fairly easy. Family friendly but just watch for the little ones. The day I went it wasn't muddy but I can imagine it being muddy and slippery in certain sections if it had rained recently. Just be careful about that. Enjoy the view.
Easy hike - make sure you keep going past the pillboxes! Lots of rain lately, but not bad if you stay near the edge. Overall, pretty relaxing and enjoyable!
Fun hike after the rain, the mud made it more challenging.
