Halawa Trail is a 10 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Aiea, HI that features beautiful wild flowers. The trail is rated as difficult and primarily used for hiking.
Lessor known trail that takes you to the Ko'olau Summit Trail (KST). This one connects just above the H3 Tunnel on the Windward side of Oahu. This trail starts in Halawa Valley. The first section is an under the highway crossing to then connect up with a 4WD jeep road. It then narrows to a steady climb up Halawa Ridge. Most of the time the trail faces towards Red Hill and away from the H3 highway. At the last section, the trail takes a turn towards H3 and you will get to see the highway entering through the "pali" (cliffs). The final section is a climb to the KST, topping out above the tunnel. There is a good view of windward Oahu, with Kailua, Kaneohe, and Kualoa spreading out before you.
This trail takes you "stairway to hell" the opposite side from "stairway to heaven"
Didn't happen. Won't likely happen. Must not know the secret handshakes. Drove to the "trailhead" as per directions during my brief lunch break to scope it out for an after work hike. No parking, no trespassing, and closed signs everywhere with no indication of a trailhead. See pics.
It is actually a service road for the H3 highway when it was being built. We got to bridge #20, and found it to be gone, washed out. We turned back at that point. Next time, we will climb down and cross river and continue to summit above the H3 tunnel.
I tried to find the trail today.
No luck. I can only assume since no one else has reviewed it that there is no trail.
