Akaka Falls Trail is a 0.5 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Pepeekeo, HI that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round.
Loop hike takes you to two large waterfalls in a lush rain forest near Hilo. Self-guided walk through tropical vegetation to scenic vista points overlooking the cascading Kahuna Falls and the free-falling 'Akaka Falls, which plunges 442 feet into a stream-eroded gorge. The 0.4-mile loop footpath is a good family walk. Trailhead is located just off the parking lot. The paved route offers stunning viewpoints of the two waterfalls. To view Akaka Falls only, take the path to the left (south) from the first junction. The waterfall view is just a short walk down the path.
Great hike.... nicely paved.... safe for children....
Beautiful walk and falls (Akaka & Kahuna). There is a $5 State Park fee for the carpark, however the trail is so well maintained and beautiful that it is totally worth it. The scenery is absotutely beautiful and it is an easy walk.
loved this hike. you do have to pay for parking but it's worth it.
Really nice falls ! 1$ to 5$ fees but it worth the price. Beautiful little trail with a lot of birds, wild flowers and trees. The falls are impressive ! You need 30 to 40 minutes, time to see everything and take some pictures !
Cool views, nicely maintained paved paths.
It was a nice easy hike!! Two beautiful waterfalls, only $2 to park. It was like a stroll through the park, all paved, some stairs railings throughout. Nice easy walk.
Easy walk on a half-mile paved loop trail through the rainforest. Easy hike as long as you're ok with some stairs and hills. The only reason you would really want to come here though is for the scenic waterfall view.
Paid parking kinda sucks but the trail was easy and the waterfall was dope.
Beautiful falls, not too long of a walk literally just a look out.
Akaka Falls State Falls, is a must see. The entrance fee is small $1 per person and $5 for parking in the lot. Otherwise you can park outside the gate alongside the road. The trail takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, it is a circle route. You get the chance to see two waterfalls (Akaka and Kahuna Falls). You see them from a distance but nonetheless breathtaking. This trail is great for kids, grandparents and everyone in between!
Short hike with paid parking. Paved half mile trail is so. Very nice waterfall and scenario. One of the best around.
Great views of the falls. We are recording many Big Island hikes if you want to follow us.
Easy hike on a paved trail. We're a few up and down sets of stairs but overall very easy and rewarding.
Very easy hike with great views.
Beautiful views of the falls, but felt like I was walking through a zoo. Concrete paths and metal railings guide you through the loop back to the parking lot where you have to pay for parking. We did it in about 15 minutes.
Quick, easy circle route with a couple of good views.
