Did not see one other person. Up and down the whole time. The river was worth it! Dogs loved it!
The sign to get there is actually Rich mountain. Use the gravel road. This a hunting and fishing place so not sure how this factors into hiking there year round.

Good hike, river worth the trip!

Hiked this trail for the first time last night. Excellent hike. From the parking area, you walk around a closed gate, and down a crushed rock for a ways. You walk thru open meadow with great mountain view, then into the woods onto a more traditional hiking path. There is a steep decline just as you get to the river. Steep enough to have you grabbing onto trees to help yourself down. But worth the effort. That section of the Cartecay is breathtaking. The trail follows the river for a good portion of the back end of the loop. There isn't a steep climb up on the return, but several long inclines that will have you huffing & puffing a bit. We were racing a setting sun, so few stops to catch our breath. There is a turn to the left under a big leaning tree that is a continuation of the bike trail. Going that way will add another 3 miles, so careful hikers. But the split is obvious. Stay to the right to get back to the parking lot. Great hike!!

This is a great trail to hike especially when you get to the river! The stretch of the river you walk down is very beautiful !! I would rate it as a moderate difficulty hike . The only bad thing I would have to say about it is that it is in a wildlife management area and you cannot drive all the way to the trailhead you have to walk about a half a mile or so on a gravel road but that part was not that bad either because we saw 9 deer on our way back from the trail . They ran across the road about 40 feet in front of us . It was an over all great hike !!!!

nice trail, but wish the trail markings were more clear, also not a lot of obstacles - more incline/decline or elevation change type of ride
