THIS IS A DECEIVING TRAIL IF YOUR NOT READY. THE HIKE DOWN TO JACKS RIVER IS AN EASY STROLL BUT COMING BACK OUT TO THE TRAIL HEAD IS A STEADY UPHILL CLIMB. THE TRAIL IS USED BY HORSES SO WATCH OUT FOR MEADOW MUFFINS. THE BEGING OF THE TRAIL HAS SEVERAL SMALL STREAM CROSSING BUT NOTHING BIG. THE OVERALL TRAIL CONDITION IS GOOD, THOUGH IT IS NOT A WELL GROOMED TRAIL.
This was the beginning of a Scout trip leading to Jack River Falls and Trail Head. We actually hiked this in the middle of the night. There are some shallow stream crossings which can be challenging. From the trail head to Jacks River it is mostly down hill. The next morning as we started out it started raining but finally stopped about two hours into the hike. Surprisingly enough the trail did not get slick or even look like they would wash out. A moderate hike if you are gong to do an out and back so be prepared for the uphill climb.
Easy to moderate backpacking leading to the Jacks River.
The climb out isn't too terribly bad. I had to stop for a 10 second breather twice, but overall, I enjoyed it and will definitely be back, with my hammock, come winter.
the trail starts out going towards jack river very easy. I crosses a creek 12 times. Easy to cross. The trail seems to go for ever.Rice camp is 3.8 miles from the parking lot to jacks river.I stayed there for three days.
