Did the "red" Kennesaw Mtn Trail (~5.6 mi loop). The highly technical parts are challenging and fun. Great elev change on the mountain portion, obviously. The backside portion (final 2.5 or so) was super easy and kinda boring. I recommend running this loop once, taking your time to stop at the historical markers, cannon emplacements, and the awesome overlooks. Then, run it again w/whatever intensity you want or need. Practice your footing techniques, particularly on the downhills.
Very familiar with this trail. Moderate hiking, and very pretty views. It's popular so you can see a lot of foot traffic. There are a lot of nice nooks here and there that are nice to stop at and take in the environment.
Loved that it had challenging parts, wildlife (I saw a bunch of deer, big birds, lizards, & squirrels), and filled with history. First part of trail up to the peak is very busy, but after that it was peaceful and only saw a handful of people at most.
Great trail! The only reason I don't give it a 5 star is because of all the other amazing trails Georgia has to offer. This one doesn't even compare to some other ones I hiked when I was there this summer.
I grew up hiking this trail before there was a visitor center or parking lot. We literally parked on the side of the road and headed up it! I couldn't wait to take my children up to sit on the cannons (which are still there, but fenced off.....no longer allowed to sit on them!). It is a moderate hike, but the views from up top are worth it. The history there is so important too. It was a major battlefield/site during the civil war. Great family outing and hike!
only did the lower half. 2 days later I can still feel it
Great views from atop big Kennesaw and the trail makes a good conditioning hike. We go several times a month. There are many possibilities to alter your route when combined with other trails in the park.
