Lake Jesup Wilderness Area - Marl Bed Flats is a 1.3 mile loop trail located near Sanford, FL that offers the chance to see wildlife. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from January until January. Horses are also able to use this trail.
Initially, the North Lake Jesup Tract and the Marl Bed Flats Tract were purchased to meet legislative requirements established for mitigation of the Seminole County portion of the Eastern Beltway. Initially, the North Lake Jesup Tract and the Marl Bed Flats Tract were purchased to meet legislative requirements established for mitigation of the Seminole County portion of the Eastern Beltway. Now, along with the East Lake Jesup Tract, these lands contribute to the enhancement and protection of water resources and increased flood protection and the protection of ecological functions and habitats in the Lake Jesup area. The Marl Bed Flats Tract was jointly acquired with Seminole County, and the countys Wilderness Park with boat ramp is located on the southwest corner of this tract. Lake Jesup is mostly composed of floodplain wetlands and wooded hammocks.
I hiked through here on a birding field trip during the Space Coast Birding festival. We went through one area of lovely moss-covered trees and then into a great open clearing. Some of the birds we saw included: Wood Stork, Anhinga, Palm Warbler, both White and Glossy Ibis, Wilson's Snipe, Limpkin, Loggerhead Shrike, a Bald Eagle, and more...
