Chipola River: Peacock Bridge to Look & Tremble Rapid is a 10 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Marianna, Florida that features a river. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for fishing, canoeing, and whitewater kayaking.
This 10 mile section of the Chipola River offers shoals, limestone bottom, oddly shaped rocks, and caves. The trail is primarily used for canoeing, fishing & kayaking and is accessible year-round. The put-in is on CR 278 at the Peacock Bridge boat launch. The run offers an abundance of wildlife and flora as well as at least one rapid. The water is clear and you can see the limestone bottom of the river as well as a large variety of fish. Just south of Johnny Boy landing, a popular launch area for tubers and swimmers, you will find limestone bluffs with a few caves. The shoals, limestone bottom, oddly shaped rocks, caves, and the Look and Tremble Rapid make this a fun run. Take out is at the access road beside the river at Look and Tremble or a couple of miles further down the river at the boat ramp at Lamb Eddy.
Have paddled this section many times in the last few years. It is always exciting and fun. The limestone rocks on the bottom of the river and the caves on the bluffs of the river are mesmerizing. It is amazing to see large schools of mullet swim by as you paddle down the river. I have seen at least two alligators, but have found if you do not approach them, they will go about their business not minding you. When the Chipola is at normal stages, it cannot be beat for family fun.
