Apalachicola NF West Trail is a 30 mile out and back trail located near Lamont, Florida and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible from March until May. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Swamps, Streams, Ponds, Longleaf Pine Forests and lots of wild life. The terrain is very swampy. Much of the trail is ankle deep in water or more. Some of the trail through the swamps has 2x12 boards to walk on. There are long stretches through pine thickets. There are several streams and lots of wild life. Be ware of rattle snakes in the warms months. I was fortunant enough to see a black bear while hiking the first day. Mosquitos are tough as you would probably imagine, so be prepared. All in all, it was an interesting area to hike and I will probably return and hike this area again, but only in the cooler months.
