Purchased in 2000 in a bargain sale from Constantine Macricostas, the 238-acre parcel is also commonly known as Meeker Swamp. The unspoiled land a mix of meadow, farmland, wooded ridge and wetlands sits just north of Route 202, opposite the junction of Route 47, and makes a magnificent natural gateway to the town. Contiguous to four other previously donated parcels, as well as the pinnacle overlook above Lake Waramaug, the aggregate preserve now consists of 368 acres. The central 238-acre parcel consists of 50 acres of prime farmland; 90 acres of woodland and rocky ridge, and 98 acres of critical wetlands, including the headwaters of Bee Brook, a major tributary of the Shepaug River. The sites unusual geology represents the eastern limit of carbonate (marble) bedrock in this region of the state, and is where three bedrock units come together. Most significantly, the preserve contains one of the Towns largest fresh water supplies within both bedrock and stratified drift aquifers.
great lookout, pretty varied trail but the map provided by the preserve wasn't as informative as the one on this app so we missed out on seeing the lake. will have to make it back a second time
Really beautiful. Varied flora and terrain which I loved. Large boulders throughout. Fantastic view at the top overlooking lake Waramaug. Just wished there was a bit more climb. Did the loop with the shorter increased elevation portion first. Highly recommend for an easy/moderate day hike :)
If you have limited time, take the Pinnacle Trail from June Rd. Moderate with some nice challenges. Awesome view from top of Lake Warramaug and beyond. Won't disappoint.
Nice short hike with great views from the top. Not very difficult.
Great views!! Moderate trail for sure but the views are so worth it :)
Very beautiful trail, well maintained, inclines
Beautiful day out! Got there early so it started to get hot while walking back in the field. Just way too hot right in the sun, but worth it! Took us longer than usual because we brought our two (11&20lbs) dogs. They did not like it, and they love hiking. Had to carry them on our way back halfway, haha :p Definitely worth it! Loved the view!!
Nice views a bit difficult because it's straight uphill for a while. Bring lots of water but it's great for dogs. Big field and lots of running room. Trails are very well kept
