Ok, some notes on directions for those who are trying to work off the Great Swamp Press Pachaug map. First, don't look for a Westerly Road off 165. It's Route 49, and the turnoff onto that is marked as Pendleton Hill Road. Second, don't look for a fish road. Look to your left just after you see the sign for Hodge Pond Road. You'll see an arrow for "Green Falls Pond.
I incorporated this with a trip to the Green Falls Pond, for a more substantial hike. Because I misjudged as to when the mountain laurel would be out, I was pretty disappointed. I saw a very few shrubs that were even budding yet. Without that mountain laurel, there really wasn't anything extra special about this particular trail, The trail itself was also very boggy and muddy today, not to mention BUGGY. Do not attempt without bug spray. Also, it appears that Hurricane Irene left quite a mess.
