Appalachian Trail from St. Johns Ledges is a 9.1 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Kent, Connecticut that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October.
Hiked from River Road to the top of St John's Ledges and Caleb's Peak to Skiff Mountain Road. Toby, my 8 year old Golden Retriever, was my trail partner. A steep climb with some " hand-over-hand " required to go up the Ledges. Dry leaves made for some slippery footing. Signs of a very recent (4/24/2016) brush fire were evident along the trail as it neared Skiff Mountain Road.
I did the section of the Appalachian that goes from the footbridge near Kent School to Caleb's Peak and back, which passes the ledges. Took about four hours including stopping for lunch. Would totally recommend- moderate hike with some lovely views of Kent and the surrounding valley. Perfect late fall hike.
