Waterdog Lake Trail is a 6 mile out and back trail located near Lake City, Colorado that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from June until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
This is one of our favorite "local" trails, but it is very strenuous. The trail starts off climbing and does not relent for a while. Be sure to park at the water treatment plant, walk up the road toward a private residence, then turn right to access the trail. The views are spectacular along the way. Visit this trail during the winter to do some snow shoeing if you are up for a challenge.
Last hike with my Dad
I'm going back a year on rating this - sorry! Hike is a bit steep at times, but easy enough with a good walking stick or trekking poles. Lovely aspen groves, well maintained trails and periodic bowls with wonderful vistas of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The lake is so beautiful with a small cabin at one end. I highly recommend this hike.
