Vogel Canyon - Overlook Trail is a 1.4 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near La Junta, Colorado that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Horses are also able to use this trail.
Vogel Canyon is a gorgeous sandstone canyon with pinon pine and native shortgrass prairie. It was formed by the Purgatoire River. Three springs are found in the valley. Native indian petroglyphs are also found on the canyon walls. A spur of the Santa Fe Trail, developed by the Barlow and Sanderson Mail and Stage Line, is part of the trails at Vogel.
The trail is a gravel trail that is rated for wheelchair, however, is would be difficult without assistance. The trail is simple and fairly level. I only rated it a three because of its length and simplicity. It does offer great views of Vogel Canyon. It would be great for kids.
