There is a summit and a nature trail. Took the nature trail today, just 1 mile each way. Nice and leisurely; good for kids. Awesome rock house lookout at the top with nice views of the river and canyon.

Just want to warn all hikers that this trail will be closed for repairs and maintenance on October 17, 2016 until June of 2017. The City of Loveland is planning some needed maintenance of the trail head and will be closing this trail in the fall. If you need additional information on the closure - visit www.Cityofloveland.org/trails.

Happy hiking until October 17th! Please don't trespass - it's for your own safety!

I used this trail to build up to mountain hiking. Good trail not to busy and plenty of climb.

we almost missed the parking lot driving up-it's hidden on the side and not well marked! the summit trail is moderate-difficult, a lot of rocks and steep elevation gain! our kids hiked 2 miles up and then wanted to turn back. we later tried the nature trail which was great for the kiddos! a short, easy hike (age 5 and 8 loved it)

Good hike, but not great views

This is a high moderate hike with quite a bit of elevation gain. Bring lots of water! Nice mix of sunny and shady areas along the trail. The views are amazing (except for the summit which is a little disappointing). I went the entire trail without seeing another person which is extremely rare in this area (went on a Wednesday during the mid-summer). I will do this hike again for conditioning to prepare for future hikes.

Kinda bummed by the view at the top, but I should've read the reviews and expected it. Looks like you might be able to go off the trail and do a little bouldering to get a better view, but I didn't give it a shot this time. Quite the incline most of the way up, but nothing unbearable. Overall a pretty fun hike...but nothing outstanding.

We took the trail all the way to Sheep Mountain and it is at least 4.5 miles to the top. You do gain allot of altitude on this climb to the top so it is a hike and not a walk in the woods. There are some great views on the way up and you go through some cool rock formations between mile markers 2 and 3. The summit is nothing spectacular, but if you walk a little farther you do get a nice view of the valley and the country north of the Thompson River. We did see a grouse, two deer, and an awesome bear just above mile marker 4! Take plenty of water and just remember on the way up it is down hill all the way back to the trailhead.

Awesome hike, not the greatest view at the summit... But it's about the journey not the destination on this hike

Easy hike for the whole family. We took the foothills trail which lead us to a rock shelter which is pretty fun to rest at and look at the river from the top.

Great hike! Although, the distance of this hike is incorrect. To the top is about 5.5 miles, so a total milage closer to 11 miles. The scenery was spectacular on the hike and the drive. Not too steep of a hike and it had plenty of ups and downs.

Excellent for summer with good tree cover and mountain shade.

We only did it to the first station. I liked the terrain though easy to climb.

Fun and challenging trail. During the summer I recommend starting early as it can get very hot on the trail. If you take the dog, there's a great little oasis for them to cool off in near the 3mi mark. But make sure to take plenty of water for yourself and them as you'll need it. Really no good views at the top, just a big rock cairn.

Trail was very pretty. I only made it to the 3 mile marker then had to turn back because it started to thunder and rain. Good variety of terrain and landscapes. I definitely want to go back and do the whole trail.
