cross country skiing
Short hike to the lake, with lots of possibilities to continue on for a longer hike or bike ride.
Nice hike for out of town guests. You can also access it via the Mt Royal start and then cut over -- just know the start of the Mt Royal hike is more challenging. Especially beautiful in the fall with the aspens! I wrote more about it here: https://goo.gl/cgLgQP
Easy to find, easy hike (not sure why this is listed as moderate, I'm a novice hiker and I think an average person could do this in tennis shoes with no poles or gear very easily). Nice lake view at the end, and streams visible many places along the path. Great first trail if you're coming on vacation from lower elevations.
It's beautiful in fall, it's nice and short, and is a great trail.
Really nice hike for when you don't have a lot of time. doesn't take long to get to the lake.
It was a great hike to do with kids. Just the right distance before complaining sets in. Not too many steep spots, and plenty to look at. Took a 11 yr old, 9 yr old, 4 yr old and carried a newborn. We saw great fall colors on the way to the lake.
Lovely! This was a wonderful and easy hike through some beautiful trees and ending at a nice viewpoint over the lake. As visitors to the mountains, it was a nice hike without being too physically taxing.
This is a beautiful trail with Rainbow Lake at one mile. Many Aspen, Ponderosa Pine and a bubbling brook that you cross several times over well maintained bridges. A great hike to help get acclimated to the altitude.
My dog & I totally enjoyed this very easy hike this morning. I'm not understanding the comments below about the trail not being marked. It was very clearly marked and quite obvious. I recommend doing this trail in the morning while the sun filters through the trees - very pretty. Several babbling brooks for dogs to get drinks. Perfect trail for young children. Rumor has it that a bull moose has been spotted lately swimming across the lake.
nice easy trail for the family. The lake view is worth the easy hike. enjoy
My 4 year old neice was able to complete this hike. Fair warning the hike is not well marked but it is worth the views and wildflowers.
Nice trail. Still pretty muddy so hiking shoes suggested if you don't wanna ruin your sneaks. The lake itself is nice but nothing to brag about. There are a couple nice spots to sit and relax by the water. I couldn't walk around the lake completely as there was a lot of deep mud and snow around the back of the lake still. This trail is a couple blocks from my house so I would do it again.
I have hiked this trail a couple of times ITS NOT WELL MARKED AT ALL and runs through dozens of other un marked trails but the lake is amazing and worth the hike !!
great for the kiddod
