Rabbits Ear Mesa Trail is a 5.9 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Mack, Colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
TRAIL IS MILD UP AND DOWN FOR FIRST MILE. THEN ITS TIME TO GO UP. CLIMB IS PRETTY GOOD. WITNESSED A FEW COUPLES THAT COULD/DID NOT MAKE IT TO THE TOP. LOOP STARTS ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY UP. STAY TO LEFT TO GET THE QUICKEST VIEW. THERE IS ONE SECTION OF SLOT LIKE TRAIL THROUGH THE ROCKS. STOP TO ENJOY FIRST TASTE OF VIEWS FROM THE TRAIL. AT THAT POINT YOU STILL HAVE A WAYS TO THE TOP. ONCE ON TOP, THE TRAIL IS VERY MILD. TRAVELING COUNTER CLOCKWISE AROUND LOOP IS MILD AND VIEW IS AWESOME. REST OF LOOP LEADS YOU BACK TO NORTH SIDE OF MESA. TRAIL HEADS DOWN AND THRU SOME NEAT SECTIONS OF TRAIL. TRUST THE TRAIL IT DOES CONNECT BACK AT A LOWER ELEVATION FROM THE TOP. AFTER THAT ITS ALL DOWN HILL, EXCEPT FOR THE INITIAL MILE OF TRAIL THAT IS UP AND DOWN. VERY WORTH WHILE TRAIL.
great views of the Colorado River
GREAT TRAIL. VIEW WAS AWESOME. CLIMB IS A PRETTY GOOD ONE FOR THOSE OF US THAT OUR SHAPE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. MY GPS CLOCKED JUST A HAIR PAST 7 MILES FROM CAR, UP AROUND THE LOOP AND BACK DOWN. HAD LUNCH AT TOP, RIGHT AT THE 3.5 MILE MARK. VIEW NORTH DESERT ALL THE WAY AROUND SOUTH TO THE LA SALS. TOP OF TRAIL IS MILD AND RELAXING. DID NOT SEE ANYTHING THAT SAID NO DOGS, SO THE LAB WENT WITH ME. DID SEE A NO BIKES SIGN.
Pretty remote, don't forget water. Once on the mesa was just a nice stroll, getting up and down was the beast. http://goo.gl/maps/F1Ep3
