Oak Flat Loop Trail is a 1.3 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Montrose, Colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until October.
Definitely not flat, but great views of the canyon. Around 3 miles round trip.
Pearl short trail. I combined this trail with uplands and rim rock to make a 3 mile loop trail back to the parking lot at the south rim visitor center where I had started. Crowded, so go early or late. Only took me an hour to do the loop of all three trails. Abundant wildlife and fauna.
Nice hike with some canyon views. Does drop down into the canyon 400 ft. Good hike for the canyon rim
We took a right when we came to the fork in the trail. Following the Gunnison Route, or River Access, we climbed down into the canyon to camp over night (make sure to get a permit). This was a very strenuous hike down and there are no trail blazes, only cairns left by previous climbers. The view was amazing and definitely worth the climb, but make sure to be in shape and have some navigation skills before you go!
Very short but a great view of the canyon! The visor center has great information too.
Did this last week as part of a wilderness route to the bottom of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. As noted, it give some great views, as it plunges a few hundred feet before seperating from the Gunnison Route to climb back up. It was worth the exertion in the afternoon to get some great shots of outcrop the visitor center's overlook is on.
Took us a little less than an hour to do this. It was hot and it can be strenuous because of the elevation climb on the way back. The trail offers some great views from a little ways down into the canyon.
Park Service maintained trail atop of Black Canyon of the Gunnison, some points with views. Gets hot in the summer
