The Loch Lake Trail is a 5.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Estes Park, CO that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, birding, and horses and is accessible from March until October. Horses are also able to use this trail.
The trail is great for hiking and normally takes a half day. Once we saw the water careening down the canyon so freely, We decided to hop over to the opposite side of the stream and scale rocks and ledges most of the way to capture most of the beautiful shots that we were able to. Once you make your way to The Loch, you will experience some of the pristine beauty that the Rocky Mountains hold. It was amazingly breathtaking to see the canyon and surroundings once we got there! You can get a view of a Andrew's Glacier.
Thoroughly enjoyed this hike. 5.7 miles and a nice, moderate, dayhike. Got to pass by Alberta Falls- be prepared for it to be busy. Great views as you ascend and the lake itself is beautiful.
Beautiful views all around. It was cold and windy when I went. It was worth all the effort.
One of my favorites! Good distance, awesome views the whole way and the lake at the top is beautiful. GO EARLY or expect to take the shuttle bus to the trailhead.
Arrived around 8:20am at RMNP on a Thursday and there were plenty of spots left at the Bear Lake entrance. To get to The Loch Lake you go past Alberta falls. There is a V that you will come up on with Mills Lake and Black Lake to the left and The Loch Lake and Mirror Lake to the right. You hit The Loch lake first and it is beautiful. The Loch is definitely a more moderate hike. If you continue to Mirror Lake and Sky pond the hike definitely gets more strenuous. Once you continue up the trail you will hit Timberline falls- also an amazing view. Then you go up a steep incline of stairs (boulders) to get to Mirror lake. Sky Pond is about a quarter mile past Mirror and worth it. We stopped at Mills on the way down and our trip was 12 miles round trip! I have posted pictures! No snow on the ground yet. The aspens are yellow and are beautiful. Be advised there are quite a few steep inclines.
BEAUTIFUL hike! The loch is great. There are multiple waterfalls on the way up.
AMAZING! parking lot was 1/2 full when we got there at 530am.. weather can change rapidly... be ready! dress accordingly and bring all proper supplies. We got to THE LOCH around 730am... temp was still in the 30s
Awesome trail. Great views along the way, but once you get to the Loch it is breathtaking.
Moderate hike that gets slightly less crowded the farther you go, but still has a good amount of traffic. Saw an elk herd resting at Loch Lake. Trail very well maintained with pretty decent coverage. Beautiful views of Taylor Peak. Seemed to be a fair amount of fishermen. You can continue on to get to Sky Pond or Andrew's Glacier.
Really lovely hike and a good distance, we did this and tacked on another 1 mile (total) to see Mills Lake as well. Loch is very beautiful, and if you walk out onto the rocky point (instead of taking the trail around to the right) you can sit out and enjoy the view with the lake wrapped around 180 degrees. The last mile or so you can really feel the incline, so be ready for that!
Terrific views - pretty rocky, have good shoes and be prepared for some incline work. Reward waiting for you at the top - as the lake is really quite lovely!
Fantastic hike with spectacular views along the way, and the loch was a great place to hang out for the afternoon. We hiked with our four kids (8,6,4,1- in backpack) and they did well. The Loch has spectacular views, many places to spread out, and saw some fishing as well. Even on a busy Saturday it did not feel crowded, although the trails were busy.
What a great hike!!!
My favorite mountain lake I've hiked to thus far! Large lake with tons of areas to sit and enjoy Mother Nature to the fullest. Lots of people were fishing. There were a few elk that decided to take a swim :)
Beautiful and very well marked. Tip about anti bug very useful.
We took our 7,5,3 (on my back) and they did very well.
