Incredibly high with lots of history and amazing views. Imogene Pass is the second highest drivable pass in Colorado. The drive is one of the most thrilling in the state. At Savage Basin, you'll pass through Tomboy Townsite, once one of most active mining towns in Colorado. A great deal of mining debris is still scattered about. Most is on private property and is dangerous to explore. The pass is blocked by snow until it is plowed, usually in early July. Unlicensed vehicles are not permitted on lower half of south side and must start trail from Camp Bird Road, where plenty of parking is available. High Point 13,114 ft., Best time to go: Mid July-Sept. Located in Uncompahgre National Forest. For current conditions call Norwood or Ouray Ranger District (970) 327-4261. Rating: Moderate. Do not take this trip lightly. The road is rocky, steep and narrow in places and passing can be dangerous. Stock SUVs should have low-range gearing, 4-wheel drive, high clearance and skid plates. Experienced drivers only.

Love this route. Have been on this many times and it never gets old. Lots of snow still up at the top above Tomboy camp. Great drive.

Drove this just the other day and I have driven it before the opposite direction and I prefer going the Ouray to Telluride direction. This is a little bit of a technical trail but a stock 4x4 vehicle can do it is they have good ground clearance and are careful as to what line they take. I did it in my modified FJ Cruiser no problem but 4x4 is pretty much a requirement for this one, and having low gearing wouldn't hurt either.

Cool trail for the ATV. Fairly technical in some areas. I would not recommend stock 4x4vehicles despite what others may say,

Made it up this trail with a stock 2010 4x4 powerstroke crew cab easily. Nice scenery loved the Colorado beauty.
