off road driving
These trails can be ran independently but I like to make it a full day of exploring. This make a great relaxing family trip, heck you can even make a weekend of it and Camp on Hayden or Medano Pass. The trails can also be ran in either direction I just prefer this way. Bailing off of Hwy 285 you begin ascending Hayden Pass. Gentle for the most part except right before the top of the pass. Dropping down the other side is pretty unique I cant think of many other trails where you drive the spine of for so long. Getting back on the pavement at Coaldale you will be on Hwy 50 for a bit but its not a boring drive. Turn south on Hwy 69. This will take you through Westcliff and to the Medano Pass entrance. Wolf Ranch is right near the exit for Medano Pass. Neat entrance and Buffalo Ranch. Medano climbs up and its one of the few passes that are treed to the top. Dropping down the other side there are quite a few water crossings. The sand dunes are fun to check out and if you ski or snow board it could be worth taking the old sticks up for a run. Have fun be safe... keep the rubber side down.
