Foothills Trail: Maxwell Natural Area is a 4.1 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Fort Collins, Colorado that offers the chance to see wildlife. The trail is good for all skill levels offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

A little trouble finding the trailhead. It's a small dirt road right before the left to head up to horsetooth reservoir. Trail starts flat and hoes past the CSU football stadium. Made it about half way before it started to get dark. Next time will start earlier

A great hike going up, with a steady incline. Very nice to see the A, and the view of the reservoir was incredible.

Klaus (my puppy) and I did the short route toward the north end of the trail, recently. The elevation change was relatively easy to manage and the views are good ones. As a photographer, I think this would be a great destination to get awesome sunset shots without having to travel too far from humanity...
