Directions from Telluride: Western Access: Drive west on Highway 145 two miles and turn right on Last Dollar Road towards the airport. Continue past the airport approximately one mile and find the trailhead parking lot on your right. Don't confuse this with the Breckenridge Trailhead, which comes before the Deep Creek Trailhead. Eastern Access: Drive west on Highway 145 one mile to Forest Road 637 (Mill Creek Road). Turn right on to Mill Creek Road and follow it approximately one and a half miles to the Telluride Town reservoir. There is plenty of parking room near the reservoir. This is the eastern end of the trail.
Hiked this last summer. Great hike. Take bear spray. False charged.
The Deep Creek trail traverses through a huge and spectacular aspen forest. It runs from near the Telluride Airport all the way east towards town. Exit at Mill Creek, or keep going to connect with Jud Wiebe and finish right in Telluride. It can also be connected with the Sneffels Highline Trail, which is another beautiful hike. Deep Creek is a pretty easy hike, but it is a very physically demanding mountain bike ride. The climbs are very sustained, and pretty steep. I have ridden it both directions, and they both seem like there is more climbing than there is downhill reward. But I have to ride it at least once per year in the fall because there aren't many trails anywhere in Colorado that have better fall colors.
Great for mountain biking. To make a great ride you can do a loop. start in town and ride out to Mill Creek Rd. ride up Mill creek to Deep creek from here you can ride to Jud wiebe and that will take you back into town. There are enough trails that you can make it into an epci ride or just do the loop.
This is great in the fall. There are many Aspen along the trail so it beautiful.
