off road driving
Be sure to have experience in back roads if you attempt this trail. The roads are very narrow and several tight switchbacks. The trail has steep drop offs that are scary for a novice. The stretch before the waterfall is a nail biting experience due to the steep drop off (above tree line) and bumpy narrow road which at times you have to move over to let others go by from the other direction. The waterfall and view from there is awesome once you make it though! The road to actual lake had too much snow so we decided to not attempt the last portion which was disappointing. If we had more trail experience with a jeep then it may not have been such a scary drive. It is beautiful and worth just glad we didn't go off the side!
Great trail....did it 2 years ago and was worth the drive for sure. Tried it today and had to turn around at the waterfall because the last part of the trail was covered in snow :( Wish we could have made it to the top but maybe next time. I recommend going later in the summer.
Fun trail but not able to make it to the top due to snow blocking the trail
Out of Silverton, off US550 on CR7. After about 3.7 miles turn on Clear Lake 4X4 road. Easy climb up the mountain (12 switchbacks). Road ends at the lake, elevation: 12,000+' We drove this trail twice while we were in Silverton in 2010
