Great hike - maybe not for beginners, but def perfect for someone wanting a nice incline close to denver ....
The Trail is close to Denver so easy access, the view both toward Denver and west is the beginning of wonderful yet gentle for the most part. Most of the Trail is wide, rockiness is minimal and great for beginner hikers.
The castle trail is a steep point to point trail that is heavily trafficked by both hikers and mountain bikers. With great views of the Denver metro area and out to the plains, combined with its close proximity to Denver it's no surprise that this is a very popular trail. A majority of the trail is exposed with little tree cover so the use of sunscreen and a hat is advised. The trail is commonly hiked from the East parking lot heading west bound to the castle ruins at the summit. This is particularly true of mountain bikers. Once you reach the upper park loop there are several other shorter hikes available that could easily be combined to turn this hike into a day long adventure.
I have made video reviews of this trail on my YouTube channel if you want a visual overview of the trail.

I've done this one twice in the past month or so, and its been great every time. There is plenty of parking and its free. The drive up is easy and beautiful. Highly recommend if the drive is not too far from you. My dog loves the trail and its not too incredibly rocky. I'd say its easy/moderate depending on how long you want to hike.
This is a really good scenic trail run close to Denver. There are a couple of places on the trails you'd want to slow down and pay more attention due to erosion but for the most part it is a wide trail of pea gravel. Highly recommend for a quick hike or trail run.

great trail for kids. the ruins and lookout posts have them interested 3 miles round trip.
I conquered this hike today with dog pal moose. It was great and sunny and some what challenging as it was incline all the way up. There were a lot of bikes which wasn't the best but it was fun none the less. The ruins at the top were great but walkers dream also has some great beautiful views. Great hike if you are trying to work out those legs and butt !
Great hike with spectacular views and wildlife.
