Conundrum Hot Springs Conundrum Peak Trail is a 22.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Aspen, CO that features hot springs and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from March until October.
Two Colorado 14ers in one overnight with a natural hot springs to boot! This very LONG overnight will bag you two 14er peaks. You will gradually ascent Conundrum Creek Valley watching as the trees get smaller and the miles tick by. Your campsite will be around Conundrum Hot Springs where you can take a soak and relax your feet after the long approach. In the morning you will head to the opposite side of the valley and follow the track in this guide to ascend both peaks. You will climb a very steep and loose scree slope up to the ridge where you will have access to both peaks. You then will return via the same way with the option of heading back up to the springs or simply returning to the trail down the canyon to shave a mile or so off.
We hiked this July 11th, 2016. It's a moderate hike up until you have to cross the river. After that we were climbing 3 ft snow banks especially the last 1-1.5 miles. Definitely possible without snowshoes. We started at 9:30am & made it there at 2:30ish. There were about 10 other people when we made it up. Stayed the night at a campsite nearby. Totally worth the view. The next day it took us 4 hours to trek back down & I was SO happy to see the car. My advice: make this a weekend trip & enjoy the hot springs because this hike was strenuous!
