This is a beautiful hike or horse ride; there is no trail to follow. We rode our horses up and back in just over 4 hours with few stops. There is a good amount of bushwhacking involved through the forest, but if you're used to it, it's a "piece of cake". Once you get near the top, there are sheer cliffs going down the north side, where you can stand on top and see several 14ers, in the Sangre de Cristos and Collegiate Peaks and beyond. The top affords views of Pikes Peak and beyond the Canon City area.
This is a beautiful trail ride (on horses) or hike for the hardy. There is no trail to follow, so take along a good GPS and follow the waypoints. Be prepared for a lot of bushwhacking between thick forest with many downed trees. In late July we saw a herd of about 100 beautiful elk. The views from the top and from many points along the ride are amazing. There are frequent thunderstorms in this area in the summer, so plan carefully and be prepared!
