off road driving
Slot Canyon is an unmaintained trail off a sand road, far from most visitor traffic. Here, flash floods formed a breathtaking slot canyon. At points, forty-foot high walls arch above a foot-wide canyon floor.
a great day,,,anyone can do this, easy drive to trailhead, any car!
What a cool experience. It's a short hike so we hiked in from the main road. We wore our day packs, but if you can wear a smaller pack, it's easier to squeeze through the slot. Great photos ops and beautiful sights. The trail opens up after the slot and you'll notice that if you go straight there are rocks cutting off the trail.... that's the Jeep trail. There is a sharp right turn that you can take, which has many cool areas to see, but it does dead end. You can climb out at the dead end, however you cannot get back to the car lot since it doesn't connect. At that point, you can just turn back and return the same way you came.
Oh Wow!! what a place.. we unfortunately started on wrong side and we went to the hawk mountain but on our way back, we finally found the canyon.. A bit confusing to find where does start the trail..
Wow and wow!! What a nice hike, once you found it... We started to follow the trail at the post sign then, gone below as per the trail brings us. But at this point(down below) there are no signs to whether turn right or left. We unfortunately turned right, we passed a small canyon(thought that was the slot) and started to climb(we were disappointed since we thought that was the slot that we have passed), anyways we loved the hike we did in the mountain.... Returning back, at the point where we had to climb to reach the parking lot, we have decided to continue!! Oh My God, the slot was there!!! What a place!!!So, once you are down in the canyon, pls turn left to not miss it!!
Was there just a couple days ago. Such an amazing place! There was a good amount of people there enjoying it, but it wasn't at all crowded.
Very interesting hike! The canyon gets pretty deep at some points and there are tons of ledges that you can climb onto which is a plus since I enjoy bouldering. Definitely worth it to also check out the visitor center and learn more about what caused the slot area to form.
