Tafoni and Fir Trail is a 6.5 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Redwood City, CA that features a river and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Horses are also able to use this trail.
This pleasant route offers, cool redwood canyons that transition to either mixed evergreen forest or chaparral as one travels up the drier, warmer ridges. There are views toward the San Mateo Coast, intriguing sandstone formations, and even a grove of old-growth redwoods. Trail are closed seasonally for biking, check before you depart.
beautiful hike! we tracked it using a GPS app. it's actually 5.9 miles and 2017 ft elevation gain.
Really sweet rock formation and nice hike in the woods.
An amazing ride the elevation change is brutal, your running in forest with streams near by its an awesome trail! If you can midweek is best as the trails can be empty at times!!!
Very very popular MTB area but good for hiking and trail running especially the southern end of the park. Way crowded on weekends.
A great place to mountain bike. Has some great technical single tracks and hairy switchbacks. Plenty of areas where you'll run into some pretty rocky terrain on your descent. Definitely not a place for beginners. Giant Salamander is an awesome trail. Although this can be done on a hard tail, a full suspension bike is highly recommended. You'll basically be riding down into a big bowl so wherever you ride, there is going to be an unpleasant climb back up.
You definitely have to pay attention for cyclists, but I very much enjoyed my hike here.
Excellent riding and views. The singletrack down Manzanita is very technically challenging - I would not recommend it for kids/beginners. A long steady climb back up the fire road at the end of the day. Awesome!
Great trail, although it does share with a mountain bike trail, so keep your eyes open for the bikes (they come flying down the trail in some cases). The Tafoni formation is truly an amazing site.
